Billy the Great

Guy
Caroline Binch (Illustrator)
Library Binding (June 1992)
Publisher: Bt Bound
ISBN: 0-3853-0666-0
Billy is very young when his parents begin to plan his future. His
mother thinks he'll make a good doctor or teacher. His father
thinks that a boy with such strong legs should be a soccer player.
Yet as Billy grows older, one thing about him becomes clear: he
definitely has a mind of his own.
When new neighbours move in, Billy just doesn't see them the way
his parents do. And it's a good thing! When tempers flare, Billy's
high spirits and independent nature allow him to prove that
sometimes parents can learn a thing or two from their children.
Rosa Guy takes a sidelong look at children's friendships and the
ups and downs of family life in this shrewdly observed cautionary
tale. |

Oralee

Caroline Binch (Illustrator)
Hardcover 64 pages (December 31, 1989)
Publisher: Viking Children's Books
ISBN: 0-6708-1945-X
Saying "no" is not enough. Child abduction by strangers or friends is
constantly in the press. Warning children against these very real
dangers is a difficult and often thankless task, but it has never been
so important. "Close to Home" goes beyond teaching children to "stay
safe" and "don't talk to strangers". These short stories contain
realistic advice on those unsure situations where friends act
strangely and strangers act friendly. The book is intended as a
confidence builder and this very difficult subject is dealt with in a
relaxed and sensitive manner to appeal to children themselves.
